General information[]
The Gearing was the Crown Jewel of USN Destroyers. She had excellent rapid fire guns, potent torpedoes along with her counterpart the Shimakaze, a better AA suite and of course nice concealment features that express how hard work can pay off. However, there is a fly in the ointment, her stats are considerably lower than her last tier counterpart, the Fletcher, her size gives her a better chance to be hit by stealthy torpedoes against her peers and she has 5 less torpedoes than the Shimakaze (10 vs 15). Nonetheless, she has an ace up her sleeve. She has access to a smoke generator giving you time to think up a surprise attack anyone daring to go in your smoke while her Japanese counterpart doesn't. The last Gearing ship was scrapped in 2016
In Game Description[]
The Gearing-class destroyers were completed shortly after WWII. Compared to the preceding Sumners, the Gearings had a larger displacement and greater range. Some of them continued in active service in the U.S. Navy until the 1970s, and several served in other nation's fleets.
